Current Actions:

Take Action to Phase out BPA in Baby Products
Please urge your State Representative to protect children from BPA! BPA is an endocrine-disrupting chemical used in many consumer products including baby bottles, sippy cups, as well as the lining of infant formula cans and baby food. A growing body of research in laboratory animals has linked BPA to developmental and reproductive abnormalities, heart disease, diabetes, asthma, recurrent miscarriage, obesity, and cancer.

Children are uniquely vulnerable to BPA because their bodies and minds are developing so quickly. Tell your State Representative to protect babies and phase-out the use of BPA by supporting HB 4522.

Please Call Your Representative Today to Protect Kids from Toxic Chemicals
Shrek glasses with cadmium? Cancer-causing formaldehyde in furniture? Over 1.1 million gallons of toxic oil dispersants pumped into the Gulf of Mexico? Clearly, our current laws do not protect us from harmful chemicals. Tell Congress enough is enough!

A bill was just introduced in the House of Representatives to reform our broken chemical law. We have a unique opportunity to protect our health and Great Lakes for generations to come, but your Representative needs to hear from you. Please take action here.

Ask Congress to Strengthen the Safe Chemicals Act
Legislation to overhaul the nation’s failed chemical law has been introduced in Congress by Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Congressmen Bobby Rush (D-IL) and Henry Waxman (D-CA). The Safe Chemicals Act is landmark legislation that will overhaul the way the government protects people from toxic chemicals.

The Safe Chemicals Act goes a long way toward bringing chemical policy into the 21st century. It would put public health first, provide better information to businesses, and help consumers like you to avoid toxic chemicals in every day products.

This important bill has room for improvement, and with your help we’re confident it can be fixed. We want to work with Congress to strengthen the bill to make it harder for new harmful chemicals to enter the marketplace and to phase out the “most wanted” chemicals such as Persistent, Bioaccumulative Toxic Chemicals.

Health Professionals: Support the Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act (S. 619/H.R. 1549)
This year, the Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act of 2009 (PAMTA) (S. 619, H.R. 1549) was reintroduced and is currently endorsed by numerous medical and public health organizations including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Nurses Association. PAMTA is vital federal legislation that would help end the use of important human antibiotics in the feed and water of animals that are not sick.

We are asking for your individual support by adding your name to Health Care Without Harm's Health Practitioner Petition in support of PAMTA. Your voice, the voice of healthcare professionals, is essential to help this common sense legislation.
