Recycling
Ann Arbor has been a national forerunner in recycling rates and participation for decades, and when this country produces 229 million tons of waste a year, innovation is important! But recycling rates in Ann Arbor have been slipping, and The Ecology Center and Recycle Ann Arbor are teaming up to turn that around! Together we're working to educate residents on a grassroots level about the recycling system in Ann Arbor, and demand local management companies provide the opportunity to recycle to all residents in multi-family dwellings.
Ecoleader Volunteers
The best way to create change in a community is to start locally, from the ground up.
As an EcoLeader volunteer, your role would be as a grassroots community leader standing up for and encouraging sustainable innovations within your own neighborhood. You will boldly venture into your community a few times a year to distribute educational literature on recycling guidelines, ideas for reducing one's waste stream, and fun sustainability tips. You would also be trained to easily field those hard-to-answer questions or concerns that your neighbors may have about recycling and waste reduction. What better way to get to know your neighbors, and help the environment! Sign up for EcoAction to stay informed on local EcoLeader opportunities.
RecyclePlus
Over half of Ann Arbor's population resides in multi-family housing, a population that also the hardest to reach when it comes to recycling information and education.
That's why the RecyclePlus program was created: to provide more opportunities for tenants to recycle! While management companies in Ann Arbor are required by law to provide the opportunity to recycle to their tenants, RecyclePlus provides positive incentives to companies that go above and beyond meeting the basic requirement. We also provide quality information to their tenants on how to recycle throughout the year.
