Recycle Ann Arbor Introduces Complete Construction & Demolition Waste and Recycling Services
Purchase of Calvert’s Rolloff Containers Expands Fleet, Facilities and Services
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- February 5, 2007
Recycle Ann Arbor, a national leader in recycling and waste programs, announces that it now offers complete construction and demolition (C&D) waste and recycling services, following its acquisition of Calvert’s Rolloff Containers, Inc. of Ann Arbor. Services include collection, transportation and processing of C&D wastes from commercial, industrial and residential building projects, utilizing a proprietary vehicle fleet and a 10,000 square foot sorting and waste transfer facility located at 7891 Jackson Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Founded in 1950, Calvert's Rolloff Containers has remained a locally-owned
business. In 2006, Calvert's processed 20,000 tons of materials in its facility.
Most of the materials were collected from a mult-icounty area including Washtenaw,
western Wayne, southern Oakland and Livingston Counties, with some material
coming from as far away as Flint or Toledo. The majority of business revenue
is generated through waste charges, with the remainder originating from sales
of recyclable materials.
"The
acquisition of a construction and demolition waste recycling facility and collection
equipment is consistent with Recycle Ann Arbor's mission and business plan,
and enables us to significantly expand our waste and recycling services to customers"
said Executive Director Melinda Uerling. "We now offer the most comprehensive
C&D resource recovery program to the Washtenaw County area."
Recycle Ann Arbor plans to expand the current business and services, and to increase the percentage of materials that are recovered for recycling purposes, including metals, concrete, useable lumber and cardboard.
The collection of demolition material will also benefit Recycle Ann Arbor's
ReUse Center, by providing the retail operation with used building materials
for resale. The ReUse Center is a 20,000-s.f. retail facility offering new and
gently used building materials and household items at affordable prices.
Recycle Ann Arbor Drop-Off Station Manager Bob Osterhout has assumed the position
of Calvert's operating manager, and will be responsible for daily operations,
staff, customer relations and business development. Osterhout has extensive
experience in total waste management with both the public and private sectors,
working with various organizations including Boeing, Dollar General and Onyx
Waste Services.
"Personalized service and 100 percent customer satisfaction are critical
to the success of a quality C&D waste and recycling program," said
Osterhout. "We look forward to exceeding our customers' expectations, while
offering expanded services to ensure that we are maximizing the amount of materials
that are recycled, and minimizing the volume going to landfills."
The construction industry is increasingly moving toward the green building model, as exemplified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification program. To achieve LEED certification, building projects must effectively manage waste streams and demonstrate that a certain percentage of debris has been recycled.
In addition, the industrial sector is also adopting more aggressive recycling
programs at facilities that are required to meet the ISO 14001 international
standards that most Fortune 500 companies have adopted. Recycle Ann Arbor is
well-positioned to fulfill these developing customer needs.
Construction and demolition waste and recycling services offered include:
- LEED-compliant waste management;
- Demolition debris from residential and commercial structures;
- Heavy hauling semitrucks and double trucks, for major tonnage removal and delivery service;
- Barrel and drum crushing, including onsite service for major removal and disposal;

waste, or large household cleanup and debris removal, delivery and removal;
